FREEPHONE  0800 027 0898. A dedicated, confidential support service for Parents, Family members and friends affected by or concerned about someone else's alcohol or drug use.

Callers are encouraged to talk about their own feelings, experiences and concerns. We can provide information about drugs, alcohol and treatment services, and other family support services.

One to One support service: 

Provides support to family members on an individuals basis. Helping the individual to meet their immediate needs as well as developing the skills, knowledge and confidence to take more control over their own life/situation.

Information Services:  

Getting information /leaflets/books is often the first crucial step for many family members seeking support. The information can provide a wealth of facts and access to other support services and can provide an opportunity for some family members to consider simple solutions that can help them deal with their own situation.

Counseling Services:

SFSS offers a dedicated counselling service that is provided by experiences and qualified counsellors. These services encourage people to discuss and explore their individual issues and circumstances, and help them make sense of their situation. This support services arims to help individuals cope with the issues that they are currently experiencing.

Respite Services: 

Respite is a key service both for families at a personal level but also as a preventative service. Respite can help alleviate some of the stress of the family situation and in turn help prevent further ill health and its impact on quality of life, social relationships and employment. Symptoms such as stress, anxiety worry, guilt, and depression are common experience of living with a drug user in the family. We offer a range of respite services both directly and through third parties.

Parents Support Self help Group: 

Self-help group is about taking control of our lives into our own hands It is about recognising and developing our own abilities and skills The group does not rely on the professionals all the time. The group is non-dependant on traditional leadership and is organised once a month.

Home Visits:

SFSS offers a home visit service that provides support to the service users in their own home. This service is designed to help address a range of barriers that often prevents people from being able to access SFSS other services. This includes childcare or other caring responsibilities, transport issues, and financial barriers. When appropriate, SFSS helps deliver a broader based family support service to all family members.

Complimentary Therapy Services:

Complimentary therapies are offered as part of a structured stress managment programme. This includes Reiki; Indian Head Massage; Clinical Aromatherapy; Qi Gong; and Acu Detox. Treatments are provided by qualified therapists and form part of a package of support to enable service users to cope better with the stress with which they are living.

Awareness Raising & Publicity Events:

We work in partnership with other agencies to raise awareness within communities in terms of health and well-being, and substance awareness and to highlight the need for providing support to families affected by substances .

Training/Workshops:

SFSS continues to provide training and workshops for parents, community groups and voluntary organisations. Training and workshops are tailored to the individual requirements of different groups and organisations covering a range of topics including "What About Me"; "Blood Borne Virus"; "Solihull Approach"; NQS helpline Training; "Journey of Discovery Workshops"; and Parent 2 Parent Workshops.
